When to Change Your Password
- Every 3-6 months for security
- If you suspect your account was compromised
- After using a public or shared computer
- If you shared your password with someone
- After a data breach at any service where you used the same password
Step 1: Log into Webmail
- Go to https://email.northwoodsmail.com
- Enter your email address and current password
- Click Sign In
Step 2: Access User Settings
- Click your email address in the top-left corner
- Click Settings or User Settings
Step 3: Change Password
- Look for the Change Password button
- Click Change Password
- Enter your current password
- Enter your new password
- Re-enter your new password to confirm
- Click Save
Creating a Strong Password
Your password should:
- Be at least 12 characters long (longer is better)
- Include uppercase and lowercase letters
- Include numbers
- Include special characters (!, @, #, $, etc.)
- NOT be a dictionary word
- NOT include your name or email address
- Be unique – never reuse passwords across different sites
Good password examples:
Morn!ngBlue#Sky89Rainbow!T1ger!321Purple-Elephant-Dance-92!(passphrase style)

After Changing Your Password
Important: You’ll need to update your password on all devices where you access email:
- Phone email apps – See our iPhone & iPad or Android setup guides
- Tablet email apps
- Desktop email programs (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) – See Email Server Settings
- Any email forwarding services
Forgot Your Password?
If you can’t remember your current password:
- Go to the login page
- Click Forgot Password?
- Follow the instructions to reset your password
